I began Martial Arts training with Kenpo classes in College 1980. Went into the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer & studied the combatives of the time. Went into Civilian Police work in 1990, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Sensei Julian Shiroma, also a Kenpo exponent, was the weaponless defense instructor for the HPD at the time. I was introduced to my current teacher, Dr. Bahati Mershant of the Tanaga Tiga Kuntao~Silat System in 1990, at a Law Enforcement Seminar featuring Silat.
