Use of this blog space is regulated to our discussions of Martial Arts in general including our particular stylings and activities in class. If you feel that we at the school train too hard, or have caused you pain not deserved, please go find a women's aerobics class, that is where you belong. What we do is not for those who are squeamish or have not yet grown a pair !  ( I know many women who have bigger cajones than some men). Be respectful and you shall be respected .

January 2010

Great start to the new year ! January proved to be a challenging yet fruitful month. New info is definitely the real deal, and for those who made it all the way through the Harimau Jurus, all eight of them, you definitely have a treasure to keep for the rest of your life. As we move on into February know that we will keep up the ground game by learning at least the first 5 harimau langkahs in the new format. If you thought your legs were in shape, guess again.Along with those we will be hammering through the first 15 Sabetans, so bring both sides of your brain to class with you !

NEW Year 2010

Posted by Dana at 08:14 PM on January 12, 2010 Comments comments (2)

2010 starts out well with new sign ups, along with lots more class time being logged in due to everyone getting adjusted to schedule. We have gone from 5 people to 12 with more people growing interested each day. This is steady growth and we should promote and capitalize on this movement during this first month. This is prime time while everyone has their resolutions still in their mind. I am working on a nice large sign for the front of the place, should be done by the 15th or so & it looks great ! I didn't know I was so artistic !  The Mande Muda curriculm will be demanding for this next 3 months, but please remember that this is the finest Silat seen in the U.S. bar none, and Herman came through Hawaii first, before seeing any other people in the US. We have the root info from Herman before anyone else ever saw him. Root info. This puts finishing touches on all your Silat. For those of you beginning, first level info is still being taught through Kirk & Keith, but also take heed to the Mande Muda as this is where you are going. Besides you will be in great shape when it is over.

2010 looks like it's gonna be a great year for KSK.

End of the year

Posted by Dana at 06:41 PM on December 09, 2009 Comments comments (0)

It's at the Holiday season, and as usual the attendance drops off as we all get busy with the rush of this time of year. I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your time put in, your extra efforts working on the studio, holding your own classes, and bringing in new faces.

Please keep in mind some of the things we need to keep things rolling. Pay your classe fees on time ! Rent is due on the first, yet I do have till the 10th before it is late. Please pay dues by the 5th of the month to keep me from pulling my hair out trying to find the money. If you are behind , please catch it up by the end of this month so we can start 2010 fresh.

All new students are free for the month of December so use that for a push on new people for the school. Let's get them in there, the art sells itself !

Instructor's gather up you hours and get them to me for your certificates. I'll make them up in January. I will be gone from the State from the 19th of December to 2nd of Jan. to see my father after his cancer surgery.

It's been a good year, we'll have to work extra hard as we have a gap after losing an instructor. Keith's father will be starting up some Tai Chi classes in the morning hours this will increase our exposure some.

The January retreat obviously has to be moved up some, maybe looking into spring time so we can advertise, and promote better.

Have a Merry Christmas, and keep training !

Aloha,

First off I would like to thank our teacher and mentor "Dana Mattos" Mahalo !, for setting up one of the best workshops from our founder of our system and the special guests  which demonstrated different techniuqes and applications of various  systems. The workshop held lastnight was awesome, I can't even phathom the amount of information and differnt applications which was shown to us, It still gives me the butterflies in the stomach just being apart of that gathering. "WOW" still can't get over it. I hope we have more of these as our school grows and hope that we can go to different gatherings in the same respect. Mahalo to Byran DaSilva and Braddah Greg  for being my training partners and Braddah Paul, good to see you again ! WOOHOO, Lastnight was AWESOME. ALOHA My Braddahs, See you guy's in class !!!!

Kirk's Test Day January 31st., 2009

Posted by Dana at 08:03 PM on February 03, 2009 Comments comments (0)

January 31st, 2009   KSK Hawaii had a new Instructor added to it's ranks. Kirk Henry started up with us in January 2008 and put in a full year of Silat Training. His eagerness to learn put him well in front of the curve, and when it came time for testing it showed. Although there is always room for improvement, Kirk placed well amongst his peers for having the knowledge and preparation for the day. We welcome our new addition and look forward to his new students and the flavor they will add to the family tree. We all had a good time, the food & drink was good. We will all miss Paul's old house as this was a great meeting place for training, business, and fun times.

Congratulations Kirk !

See You All on Tuesday.

New Contacts

Posted by Dana at 06:30 PM on January 19, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Last week Thursday we had a group of visitors who were invited to our class by

Paul. This was accomplished through Paul & Kirk going and training in a public

venue, namely Old Airport State Park. We had several visitors, and two people

enter into training. This group is in the preliminary stages of forming a Security

Business here in Hawaii, and interested in Personal Protection (Body Guard Services).

The two gentlemen were given a two hour overview of the instrumental teachers of

the Tanaga Tiga System, and many of the concepts & techniques we employ.

Overall they were impressed in how this was presented, and both left with the

tell tale handprints, bruises, & red marks that accompany our training. The was

some knife dis-arming, and funtion also shown which was a specific area of interest.

These are the kind of contacts which will help the group expand & grow into the

business we all would be proud to be a part of ! As Paul nurtures this contact and

hopefully brings them onboard, we will all have to brush up on our professionalism

in having potential customers view our art, and our demeanor as we deliver it.

Good Job Paul !

Super Hero

Posted by Dana at 07:16 PM on January 11, 2009 Comments comments (1)
This is a previous blog I posted on Myspace & I think it needs a re-post here on my site !

I find the longer I train & teach martial arts that there are really only two types of martial art practitioners.

Group 1. These are the "super hero". The "I been there done that" guy. "I trained with so & so and therefore I can do all the things he can do"."I like this art so therefore I am". He can't commit to training, doesn't show up but for the occaisional scoff session at those that are there all the time. When he can't do what the others are doing it's beneath him and not important. He walks around pronouncing his talents, which are few, and never seen. He has all the equipment, yet it always looks brand new. Not a wear spot, battle scar, or fading. In other words never used. this is the guy you could never trust in the foxhole with you ! Mainly because he wouldn't even show up for the battle, but walk in after all the heavy lifting was done and proclaim his victory. This is the guy that deserves 'friendly fire".

Group 2. These are the guys that are there every session and asking when the next one is. They might have seen the information before but find new meaning each time it is shown to them. They don't ask when it's time to do it, it's just time to "git'er done". When times are tough, they get tougher and band together. They sweat and bleed together and help all those that want to jump in. No excuses, no bullshit. Their shirts are tattered, and their trainers are scarred. These are the guys you want at your back because you accomplish great things together, and your a good team without the super hero. Keep training hard for the day you need to be depended upon, and leave the super hero-ing for those living in comic book land.

Aloha
